Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about UC Davis Give Day 2021.

Giving During an Ongoing Pandemic

Throughout the pandemic, UC Davis and UC Davis Health have stood out as leaders, setting a global standard for patient care, treatments, the development of vaccines and a rapid COVID-19 testing program that has garnered national attention.

Our students have assisted in testing, making PPE and addressing food and shelter needs among their peers.

Our faculty have shifted the focus of their research so they could provide assistance to others during this challenging time.

As we approach our second Give Day event held during a global pandemic, we encourage you to to keep supporting UC Davis programs you are passionate about, that teach critical thought and compassion. Both are needed to address the challenges before us.

A gift of any size makes a difference. And if you are unable to give during this time, becoming a Social Ambassador by sharing information about Give Day on your social media channels would be greatly appreciated. Sign up here.

Thank you for joining us for UC Davis Give Day 2021!

What is UC Davis Give Day?

UC Davis Give Day is a 29-hour online fundraising drive to support initiatives at UC Davis Health, our veterinary hospitals and on the UC Davis campus.

Our fifth annual Give Day will be held this year on April 16-17. It will coincide with our Picnic Day celebration, which will be online this year due to the ongoing pandemic.

As always, the goal of Give Day is to bring our community together to celebrate the Aggie spirit by sharing, following or financially supporting programs that have made an impact on the lives of people everywhere. This year we also hope together we can continue to support emergency programs that take care of our students and our employees during this uncertain time.

No matter what programs you support, or how much you feel comfortable contributing this Give Day, we hope participating in our online event reminds you that you are an important member of our Aggie community, and that we are greater--together.

Why should I give to UC Davis?

UC Davis' footprint has grown considerably since our inception, and now includes the Bodega Marine Laboratory, the Tahoe Environmental Research Center in Nevada, and UC Davis Health in Sacramento. Soon it will also include Aggie Square, a new hub of innovation.

The generosity of alumni, parents and friends provides UC Davis Health, our veterinary hospitals, and the students and faculty on our campus the support they need to pursue the ambitious research goals that have long defined our university and continue to drive us today.

As mentioned above, there are many opportunities to support our world-class academic and research programs. There are also many opportunities to support our students in need as they and their families navigate the challenges that many face during this time.

If I give early, will my gift be counted on Give Day?

Yes. It will. But it will not show up on the site immediately if you give before the 29-hour event starts. Instead, you will receive an email confirmation/receipt that your gift has been accepted and is being processed.

When the Give Day event starts at noon on April 16, all of the early gifts will be counted among the numbers displayed on each page. At that time, your name will also be displayed on the donor wall as well.

If you have questions about this, please email giveday@ucdavis.edu.

What are Challenge Gifts?

Challenge Gifts, created by donors for their favorite programs, create an incentive for others to give by increasing the amount of money raised based on donor participation.

When a challenge reaches a specified number of donors on Give Day, the challenge donor's gift is activated. As an example, a donor is challenging others to support the UC Davis Annual Fund. When 20 gifts are received, their gift will be activated.

After a challenge is activated, the challenge box will disappear but you can still give to any challenge gift fund by hitting the Give Now button and finding the fund in the drop down selection.

Every year we have a wide array of challenges. This year, in addition to those that support academic and research programs, we have several challenges that are related specifically to supporting emergency funds for students and employees on both campuses. All of these programs are important, are of enduring value and are key to shaping a better world during and beyond this moment.

Please give to what you are moved to support.

What are Social Ambassadors?

As noted above, Social Ambassadors support Give Day by sharing the UC Davis message of philanthropy through social media channels like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. If you'd like to become an official Social Ambassador and access our Give Day sticker on Giphy, just sign up here.

After you sign up, you can send emails or post unique links to our website on social media to help spread the word about causes you care about at UC Davis or UC Davis Health.

We encourage our Social Ambassadors to change their social media profile and cover photos and share the message of giving with their friends and colleagues in the days leading up to Give Day. Your promotion of challenges and causes you care about, is crucial to the success of UC Davis Give Day.

How can I help spread the word?

You can spread the word on all of your social media account by becoming a Social Ambassador and tagging your posts with #ucdavisgiveday, #everyaggiecounts and #ucdhstrong. Those hashtags will pull your posts onto the tagboard on our main page during Give Day.

Please also talk about Give Day to your friends, colleagues and anyone you think may be interested in supporting UC Davis or UC Davis Health, and the important work we do.

Promoting any of our challenges as a Social Ambassador this Give Day is greatly appreciated. Sign up here.

Is my gift tax deductible?

The UC Davis Foundation and The Regents of the University of California - the two gift-receiving arms for UC Davis - are both qualified charities that provide donors with tax benefits to the full extent of the law. Your gift qualifies for a tax-deduction in accordance with IRS regulations, during the calendar year that you make your gift. After making a gift you will receive an email with information that can serve as a receipt for your files. Please consult your tax professional for more information.

Where will my gift to UC Davis go?

It’s up to you! You may designate to any area of the university that is important to you. Whether your heart is with your college or school, a student program, Picnic Day, or you have an interest in a specific research initiative, an area of UC Davis Health, or animals, you are free to choose what your gift supports. When you make your gift, you can select from a wide range of colleges, schools, units, programs and centers.

This year we have many emergency funds that support our students on both the Davis and Sacramento campuses. You can also give to COVID-19 research or support our health care professionals working on the front lines of the crisis.

What if the fund or program I want to donate to is not listed?

Please select "other" during checkout  and write in the fund of your choice. You have to select something in the drop downs to give, so we suggest choosing the Annual Fund or the College/School/Program in the department or program drop down menu, then select "other" as your fund designation choice.  There will be a place to write in the fund designation you would like to support.  Thank you.

Can I give to more than one area?

Yes, you can make multiple gifts when you check out. For example, you could support one of our emergency funds and an area of campus you are passionate about. Make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select the other areas you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your donations.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Yes. There is a $5 minimum.

How will I receive my tax receipt?

You will get an email confirmation of your credit card transaction right after you make a gift.

When will my card be charged?

Your credit or debit card is charged immediately upon finalizing your gift.

Are there fees associated with giving to UC Davis?

UC Davis retains a 6% fee on each gift to current use funds; this fee helps to defray the administrative costs incurred in managing UC Davis’ fundraising operations.

Who should I contact if I have a question about my gift?

For general questions about your gift, please email giveday@ucdavis.edu. Thank you.
