Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about UC DAVIS GIVE DAY 2017.

What is Give Day?

UC Davis Give Day is a 29-hour online fundraising drive to support initiatives at UC Davis Health, our veterinary hospitals and programs on the UC Davis campus.

Our first Give Day will be held this year on April 21-22 in conjunction with our most beloved annual event, Picnic Day. The goal?  Bring our community together to celebrate the Aggie spirit by sharing, following or financially supporting programs that have made an impact on the lives of people everywhere.

Whether you are an alum or have experienced the wonderful care UC Davis Health and our veterinary medical hospitals provide, you are an important member of our Aggie community. Join in this celebration of giving because… together, we add up!

What are Challenge Gifts?

Challenge Gifts, created by donors for their favorite programs, create an incentive for others to give by increasing the amount of money raised based on donor participation. Only gifts made on Give Day will be eligible for Give Day challenges.

When a challenge reaches a specified number of donors on Give Day, the challenge donor's gift is activated. As an example, in honor of the 40th anniversary of STEP, when the Division of Student Affairs reaches 40 donors a $40,000 challenge gift will be activated.

Every donor, no matter the size of the gift, counts - and together these gifts will add up to help support UC Davis, UC Davis Health and our veterinary medical hospitals in unbelievable ways.

Why should I give to UC Davis?

UC Davis’ footprint has grown considerably since our inception, and now includes the Bodega Marine Laboratory, the Tahoe Environmental Research Center in Nevada, and UC Davis Health in Sacramento.

The generosity of alumni, parents, friends and our human and animal patients provides UC Davis Health, our veterinary hospitals, and the students and faculty on our campus the support they need to pursue the ambitious research goals that have long defined our university and continue to drive us today.

What are Social Ambassadors?

Give Day relies on social media and Social Ambassadors to share the message of philanthropy. After you sign up online as a Social Ambassador, you can send emails or post on social media with unique links to our website to help spread the word about our event. We encourage our Social Ambassadors to change their social media profile and cover photos and share the message of giving with their friends and colleagues in the days leading up to Give Day.

Is my gift tax deductible?

The UC Davis Foundation and The Regents of the University of California — the two gift-receiving arms for UC Davis — are both qualified charities that provide donors with tax benefits to the full extent of the law. Your gift qualifies for a tax-deduction in accordance with IRS regulations, during the calendar year that you make your gift. After making a gift you will receive an email with information that can serve as a receipt for your files. Please consult your tax professional for more information.

Where will my gift to UC Davis go?

You have the opportunity to specify the exact fund (or funds) you'd like your gift applied to. We encourage you to browse this website to view all Give Day participants and donate where you are most philanthropically passionate.

What if the fund or program I want to donate to is not listed?

Please use the comment box during checkout to list the fund of your choice. You have to select something in the drop downs to give, so we suggest choosing the Annual Fund and then your gift will be moved to your designation of choice.  Thank you.

What will my donation fund?

It’s up to you! You may designate to any area of the university that is important to you. Whether your heart is with your college or school, a student program, Picnic Day, or you have an interest in a specific research initiative, an area of UC Davis Health, or animals, you are free to choose what your gift supports. When you make your gift, you can select from a wide range of colleges, schools, units, programs and centers.

Can I give to more than one area?
